Official Misconduct : Customs indict two top mgt chiefs By Eguono odjegba There are strong indications that the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, may have sacked two Assistant Comptroller Generals, ACG, following recommendation of a Disciplinary Committee it set up investigate the affected officers over alleged official misconducts. Information available to Vanguard Maritime Report suggest that a verdict of compulsory retirement   and dismissal, respectively, were recommended for the embattled officers, ACG Abubakar Bashir, Coordinator of Zone B Kaduna, and   ACG Aminu Dahiru, immediate past Coordinator, North West Joint Border Drill. Shippers’ Council projects 90 % port digitalization Qt1 2021 By Eguono Odjegba Meanwhile, the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, the Seaports Economic Regulator has expressed strong optimism on the attainment of 90percent digitalization of ports operations, as part of measures to enhance port friendly environment and boost cost efficiency. NSC Executive Secretary/CEO, Mr. Hassan Bello who made the commitment recently during a chat with Vanguard Maritime Report noted that the ports digitalization process is currently at 60percent, further noting that the Council is determined to continue to drive the process for port modernization aimed at increasing efficient service delivery, friendlier business cost, improved revenue due to the federal government and the facilitation of legitimate trade. FOU Zone ‘A’ up anti-smuggling strategy with SWATT BY EGUONO ODJEGBA The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’ Lagos has introduced a Special Weapons and Tactical Team, SWATT, to deepen its operational strategies and strengthen the blockade of leakages of items associated with insecurity as well as revenue loopholes. Expectedly, SWATT since inception few months ago have busted a number of high profile concealments and recorded projected critical seizures that has not only saved the country the agony of such items finding their way in and raising the already volatile national insecurity; but also translated into very impressive revenue recovery, put in the region of over N200million.
